About Fran Stoval

#

When I open my box of pastels, I have an irresistible arsenal of color and texture."

Fran Stoval likes the versatility of being an artist. Trained in graphic arts at Weber State College, she worked for many years as an illustrator for Los Alamos Technical Associates before finally turning her attention full time creating fine art. After working in oils, she studied pastel painting techniques at the University of New Mexico, as well as taking workshops. She is now a proud member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico.

In 1992 Stoval was in the process of updating her home and decided to create a stained glass piece for her front door. She took a class at the Art Center at Fuller Lodge and before she knew it she was using her graphic design and her computer skills to create amazing stained glass panels. Stoval began teaching that very same stained glass class in 1998 and has been asked to teach every year since.

From 1996 to 1998 she participated in the Los Alamos Studio Tour. Her work has been displayed at Mesa Public Library, Café Allegro, Andrews Fine Art Gallery, Karen Wray Fine Art Gallery, the Art Center at Fuller Lodge, the Coffee House Café, and her own Fran Stoval’s Fine Art gallery on Canyon Road.

In 2009 Mosaics became a new challenge. Mountains of small leftover glass needed to be repurposed and what better way than to cover objects in glass designs. In 2009 she had a one man show in the Portal Gallery at the Fuller Lodge Art Center displaying her Mosaics.

Today Fran Stoval is well known in the community for her pastels that represent New Mexico landscapes, for her intricate designs and vibrant colors in stained glass and mosaics, and her most recent undertaking, writing and illustrating her first children's book. The Secret Dragons.
